Projects, Workshops, and Special Events

Our projects, workshops, and special events are planned and facilitated by the CEPI Team alongside the program manager.

What's unique about these activities is that they are based on the interests of the adults that participate in CEPI. The CEPI team will ask the adults what kinds of things they're interested in to make sure that they take part in the decision making, since this is their program. We want to provide as much ownership and autonomy as possible.

*These events are free to CEPI adults. We encourage many to come and participate!

Life During the Pandemic

La Vida Durante la Pandemia is a book featuring participants from Whittier, California, San Diego, California, and Sevilla, Spain.

The goal was to connect with others and share our lived experiences during the pandemic. It is a story from our participants perspective, where they choose what to share—the good, the bad, and everything in between.

*This was inspired by "Photovoice, where people can identify, represent, and enhance their community through a specific photographic technique"

(Caroline Wang and Mary Ann Burris, 1997).

Estas Manos

This was a short Digital Story Telling (DST) project where nine of our CEPI adults participated and wrote a poem about their hands, “Estas Manos”

Sonia Chaidez from Whittier College led a virtual workshop to present the project to the adults to inspire them to share their beautiful stories digitally. Our CEPI team helped the adults throughout the process of creative writing and editing. We then recorded their voices and helped finalize the stories. We had a total of 9 CEPI adults and 2 undergrads from the CEPI team share their stories and be a part of our first CEPI Virtual Showcase!

We had folks from different locations join us from the comfort of their home as we watched the short stories together! Click here to enjoy the stories.

Podcast & Digital Stories
VOCES

The Community Education Program Initiative is honored to present Voces, a series of podcasts and digital stories.

This is a film where CEPI members from the local Whittier community share their voices and stories, just as they have been with their podcast. This will have you pause and think about life in different ways and about the little things in life that need to be embraced rather than forgotten.

It will bring you laughter, joy, empowerment, and admiration—amongst other feelings. Click here to enjoy!
